Founded in 1999, the Coalition for Medicare Choices is a fast-growing, national grassroots organization of more than 1.8 million people who receive their health care coverage through a Medicare Advantage health plan. Members of the Coalition for Medicare Choices, who reside in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, are united in supporting high quality health plan choices in Medicare.
Coalition members actively communicate with members of Congress about issues that affect their coverage. Over the years, Coalition members have participated in dozens of town hall meetings and rallies involving members of Congress and their staff, written hundreds of letters to the editors of their local newspapers, made tens of thousands of phone calls to congressional offices, and written more than 150,000 letters to their members of Congress. Since 1999, Coalition members have made more than a million contacts with their members of Congress.
How we are working to protect seniors in Medicare Advantage…
Connecting Medicare Advantage Seniors with Members of Congress: The 1.8 million seniors in the Coalition reside in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. The Coalition hosts events across the country that connect Medicare Advantage beneficiaries with their elected representatives. These are positive forums for seniors to relay their personal Medicare Advantage stories about the importance of continuing to protect their health care benefits.
Creating a Community of Advocacy: CHOICES, the Coalition’s new digital magazine, is published quarterly for the Coalition’s 1.8 million Medicare Advantage seniors. CHOICES features the latest updates on how Coalition seniors are making their voices heard, exclusive letters from members of Congress who want to connect with Medicare Advantage seniors, and more.
Showcasing Seniors’ Stories: The Coalition’s recently revamped website (www.MedicareChoices.org) includes video testimonials from Coalition members, pictures and videos of seniors meeting with their members of Congress, and enhanced tools that allow seniors in Medicare Advantage to make their voices heard, take action to protect their health care benefits, and tell their personal Medicare Advantage stories.
The Coalition is also very active in engaging in discussions about Medicare Advantage on Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube. The Coalition often shares infographics, videos, and other materials to help tell the stories of seniors with Medicare Advantage.
Building Partnerships: The Coalition maintains strategic partnerships with stakeholders, physicians, and experts to make sure policymakers are getting a variety of perspectives on the value of the Medicare Advantage program. Co-hosted events and social media engagement are some of the ways the Coalition is working with allies to create an echo-chamber of voices working to protect seniors who rely on Medicare Advantage.
